Winner! Decorati Book Review + Giveaway: Liaigre

Posted on Nov 4, 2008 by Decorati

Welcome to the next Decorati giveaway! This week we are excited to feature Liaigre, the second book by renowned designer Christian Liaigre, published by Flammarion and distributed by Rizzoli. One lucky winner who registers with Decorati by Friday Nov 7th will be entered to win a Free copy of Liaigre.

The contest has ended.  Congratulations to our winner:  Kathryn Evans from John Caviness Ltd. in NY.

Liaigre features images from six diverse locations, ranging from a yacht to a vacation home in Bora Bora to a Spanish residence. For this review, we chose to focus on the most structurally unique spaces - the yacht and the home on Lake Geneva. During this hectic time of year, it is nice to relax and imagine living in the elegant and peaceful spaces that Liaigre has created. See more for the review and photos.

Rosehearty Yacht

Given his affinity with the sea and all that it entails, Liaigre was thrilled to be asked to design this amazing 184 ft yacht. Not only is his design gorgeous, but it is also a feat of engineering. The resulting space is comfortable and liveable as well as fully functional.

This living space includes storage areas concealed underneath the banquettes plus ribbons that keep the ebony trays in place, in case of rough seas. The neutral palette gives the ship a more spacious feel while the pops of orange add dimension.

The custom lamp below is adjustable and is mounted on natural pine that Liaigre treated.

Here is another more detailed view of the cushions attached to the back of the banquette to secure them in place during stormy seas.

Not only were the cushions and pillows specially designed for days at sea, but the chair below was specially made to be easily taken apart and stored during long journey.

La Renaissance, Lake Geneva

Similar to the Rosehearty Yacht, Liaigre worked his magic on the home in Switzerland. The book includes several detailed photos of the home’s signature feature - an amazing staircase of polished ebony, with pine walls and white stone steps. The light coming from the sides of the stairwell highlights the smooth curved shape.

The dining room with the owner’s ancestral portraits has a more period feel.

While the study features more contemporary Liaigre leather furniture.

The modern conservatory, an annex to the main home, features campaign-style, Folio chairs and a picturesque view of the lake.

One could imagine sitting here by the fire and relaxing after a long day on the lake.
