If the kitchen is the heart of the home, wood flooring must be the soul! Flooring lays an important decorative foundation for every space in the home, speaking with a voice that may be soft or loud, directing the emotions of all who tread on it. Although many, um, tired and dirty shoes walk indiscriminantly over wood flooring surfaces, the kitchen floor deserves our utmost attention and respect for the critical decorative role it plays in our interiors.

I have gathered a collection of recent wood flooring finds to share with Decorati readers as well as some classic surfaces that I like to keep in my design studio product library. Take note of this fresh combination of tile and wood by Mastro Vitruvio that I just discovered. A luxurious floor, this type of flooring makes a strong (and busy) design statement. My advice when using this type of flooring would be to consider all decorative layers that are to come, to carefully consider if this floor will stand on its own, a statement, or if it will get lost in a mix of pattern. This flooring is designed as rugs or as open framework.

In most cases, I abide by the mantra “Less is more”. Knowing that pattern and texture of kitchen furnishings will only build on a flooring selection, sometimes a little bit of texture is all that is needed. Enter DuChateau Floors Antique reproduction flooring with a hard-wax oil treatment, DuChateau Floors was developed in Holland. The natural oil is made of sustainable raw materials. Unique treatments are distressing, smoking, and/or brushing. Take a look…

Carlisle Flooring is a staple for many design professionals and for good reason. Wide planks and a great variety of wood species make Carlisle a natural for restoration projects. The number of flooring options is dizzying, but that also means that most likely, the nuance in your flooring that you are looking for may well be found within Carlisle’s product line. My clients have always been pleased with their Carlisle floors.

A VERY exciting, and little known flooring source, but with big style, I’m thrilled to introduce Decorati readers to Dinesen. Dinesen, a 110 year old Danish company, distributed in the U.S., purveyor of wood from the finest managed forests in Europe, offers an “extreme” in width and length of flooring boards in Douglas Fir and Oak. Denisen defines the light colored, aged and textured, quintessential Scandinavian floor. I’m a fan! I’ve seen Denisen flooring up close many times and can vouch for its beauty. Dinesen is a favorite of architects. It’s the perfect flooring for that modern/authentically textured eclectic look that I, for one, love.

Hand scraping is an added touch of authenticity in some of these floors. Flooring is a long-term decision. Carefully consider texture, durability and new or existing flooring in surrounding rooms. Do you want one floor throughout or a thoughtful mix? Take your time and carefully consider your options so that the flooring you choose sets the right tone for the right reasons. Happy flooring!

ede abbinare.
Grazie ancora.

Nice info about interesting wood flooring choices, check out our website, we do floors and timber frames for Bainbridge Island and for the rich and famous in the Seattle area. We have a short film on the making of the engineered Versailles pattern panels for a custom condo in the new Four Seasons Hotel in Downtown Seattle.
