Musical Dining Room Chairs

Want to update your formal dining room but don’t know how? Start with the chairs….the head chair at the dining room table is the perfect place to introduce a fabric with a large scale design. To get Kathleen Hay‘s look above, choose a fabric palette that has a solid or small stripe for the dining side chairs and use a more graphic pattern for the head chairs. The wing back chair works well as a head chair and can also be pulled into an adjacent room for additional seating when entertaining. See more dining chair ideas after the jump.

Another way to make your dining room chairs stand out is to incorporate two different fabrics on the same chair. See how K Design (above) paired a rich solid textile for the backs of the dining chairs with a fun bold print on the inside. The two contrasting fabrics exaggerate the curved back of the chairs and introduce another color into the room’s palate.

Who says the same dining chairs have to all look alike? Take for example Susan Fredman’s dining room above. Using contrasting colors, Susan alternates the colors and piping used on her dining chairs to add interest and rhythm to her round dining space.

Whether you want to make your dining room feel more cozy or want to add an eye-catching element, re-upholstering your dining chairs with a new textile is a great way give your space a fresh makeover.

Terrific suggestions. I use white leather chairs for my dinning room and compliment them with two wing backs covered in large patterned fabric for all the reasons you stated. When not in use for dining, the wing backs make the perfect foil for the game table in the billiards room. Chairs that are beautiful can pull double duty effortlessly and not end up just for show.
